A family boat cruise on the Hluhluwe river with sun downers and snacks.

The Hluhluwe River is just a short walk from the lodge where there is a jetty that zig zags through the reeds to the ‘African Queen’ our river boat. ¬†One of the lodge field guides will accompany you on a birding trip if you are a keen bird watcher or if you like the idea of cruising along a river and enjoying the scenery with a refreshing drink at sunset. There are small crocodiles to see and a variety of water birds. A special that is seen regularly is Black Crowned Night Heron which roost in a specific copse of trees along the river. African Finfoot is a rare but not impossible sighting as there have been some fantastic viewings of these elusive birds before. Kingfishers are the star’s of the show especially the strikingly beautiful Malachite Kingfisher which frequents the river and provides visitors with some fantastic close up viewing opportunities. The trips are at most two hours in duration and an ideal activity for late arrivals and anyone wishing to experience a intimate guided boat excursion.
